Pay Check for the Fitness Industry Award

The Fitness Industry Award (MA000094) covers gym staff, personal trainers, and group fitness instructors. It includes weekend penalties, a broken shift allowance for instructors working split early-morning and evening classes, and overtime provisions.

What Shift It handles

The complexity behind the Fitness Industry Award.

Shift It reads the award so you don't have to. Here's what it accounts for.

Penalty rates

Every shift is split at rate-change boundaries — 10pm, midnight, weekends, public holidays — so each hour is rated at exactly the right loading.

Overtime

Ordinary hours thresholds are tracked across the full pay cycle. Whether overtime is calculated daily, weekly, or across an averaging period, Shift It handles it correctly.

Broken & split shifts

Split-shift and broken-shift allowances are applied automatically when your roster shows the qualifying gap between work periods.

Common questions

Fitness Industry Award pay questions, answered.

Things workers actually search for — with straight answers.

Do personal trainers qualify for broken shift allowances?

Yes, provided the shift meets the award’s definition: two separate work periods with an unpaid break, within a maximum 12-hour span. A broken shift allowance is paid per day.1

What are the weekend penalty rates for gym staff?

Saturday and Sunday hours attract penalty loadings on top of the ordinary rate. Casual employees receive the casual loading first, then the penalty on top.1
