How is the enhanced rate calculated for NHS junior doctor shifts?

Enhanced pay is based on the proportion of total hours that fall in anti-social periods. This percentage determines your pay band, with a higher band attracting a larger enhancement on your nodal point salary.1

What counts as an anti-social hour?

Anti-social hours are defined as hours worked between 7 pm and 7 am on weekdays, and all hours between 7 am Saturday and 7 am Monday. Bank holidays are also counted.1

What are the rest requirements?

The contract specifies a minimum of 11 hours rest between consecutive shifts, with longer minimums after certain night sequences.2 Breaches should be flagged to the Guardian of Safe Working.
